Maheshwari Chowdhary, 33, was suffering from severe stomach pain on and off after undergoing the surgery on November 1 at the hospital. The woman was discharged on November 12 but was rushed back to the hospital on February 7 night due to extreme stomach pain.
Dr K Manohar, Director NIMS said that the patient is being currently taken for surgery to remove the scissors. “A committee has been constituted to enquire into the incident. Based on the committee’s report action will be initiated,” he said. The surgery was performed by Prof Beerappa and his team from the Gastroenterology department at the hospital.
The patient’s relatives, meanwhile, lodged a complaint with the resident medical officer at the hospital. “She had been complaining of severe stomach pain at times but we thought it was due to the surgery. When she was brought to the hospital yesterday, the X-ray report clearly showed the scissors. Initially, the hospital authorities were reluctant in giving us the X-ray but we managed to get it,” said the patient’s relative Mahadev.
