The day-to-day plan for Priyanka includes election review of 38 parliamentary constituencies among which Varanasi and Gorakhpur are among the top five. The meetings are all about micro planning – a culture which has evolved recently in UP.
“The aim of these meetings is to evaluate our strengths and weaknesses, identifying key persons, decode current caste equations on the seat, grade impact of various schemes launched by BJP and understand its key strategy. She would also be meeting some probable candidates,” sources said.
Sources stated that the itinerary has been prepared by the four member team headed by Dheeraj Srivastava (a key Congressman in Rae Bareli who executes her plans in the Nehru-Gandhi bastion of Amethi and Rae Bareli).
The constituency wise-meetings lined up suggests that the Congress Party was in no mood of giving a cake walk to any one including the Mayawati-Akhilesh combine unlike previous perception that Congress make filed soft or dummy candidates in places where SP-BSP candidate was strong.
“Our strategists feel that if we are to form a government in 2022 (as announced by our party president), we must go solo in 2019 so that we build the base for a grand show in the Vidhan Sabha elections,” said an AICC member.
Against the general perception, Priyanka and Jyotiraditya have been given equal number of constituencies. Priyanka Gandhi’s review doesn’t include Amethi and Rae Bareli which are already working under her supervision,” said a senior leader who shared that PGV’s (as Priyanka is usually addressed in the party office) core team is already in action in the party office.
PGV’s team however began its work on Thursday from the Munshiganj office. They reached Lucknow on Friday where they were seen working on documents and personal bio of a number of leaders currently serving at key positions in UPCC.
“The team has studied key persons at UP Congress in detail to enable Priyanka Gandhi use them adequately for the elections. In addition, they are identifying point’s persons for each constituency,” said a senior officer.
Sources said that the ground work was being undertaken as Priyanka’s arrival would herald a number changes in UP Congress to get things rolling for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. “Performers would get more work while non-performing assets would be a issued warning,” said a senior officer
The team also inspected the office where Priyanka Gandhi would sit. Though the chamber belongs to UP Congress chief Raj Babbar, Priyanka could easily find ‘peace of mind in the room’ as it is closed from three sides. The ante room attached to the chamber has meeting area that can accommodate 25-30 persons at a time.
Sources said that the ante room with a small pantry is quite similar to Priyanka’s chamber in AICC. The chamber was evaluated by special protection guards (SPG).
Meanwhile, UP CC president Raj Babbar also took three meetings with different set of workers and delegated duties of persons for the proposed welcome road show. Speaking to TOI, Babbar said: “Congress workers across India had been waiting for Priyanka ji to take an active role in politics. I am happy that she chose Lucknow.”
