SC questions timing of fresh probe plea in Haren Pandya case | India News

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday reserved its order on a PIL seeking fresh probe in murder of the then Gujarat home minister Haren Pandya, but raised questions on the timing of filing of the petition as the court is already hearing a criminal appeal in the case.

Appearing before a bench of Justices Arun Mishra and Vineet Saran, senior advocate Shanti Bhushan and Prashat Bhushan pleaded that reinvestigation in the case should be ordered to find out the truth in light of some recent revelations which allegedly showed that it was a political killing and some police officers were involved.

The bench, however, raised serious objections on why the NGO, Centre for Public Interest Litigation, preferred to file PIL for reinvestigation and not bringing these revelations before a bench which is hearing criminal appeal in Pandya murder case.
