Amid political tension, 3 Rafale aircraft land in Bengaluru Aero India air show | India News

NEW DELHI: As the political slugfest over their purchase engulfs New Delhi, three Rafale aircraft landed in Bengaluru on Wednesday to participate in the 12th edition of the Aero India which will begin from February 20.

The five-day biennial air show will also be showcasing a handful of US fighter planes apart from a bouquet of Indian aircraft.

The Rafale, made by French company Dassault, has been participating in Aero India continuously from 2011 and this will be the fifth edition that the aircraft will fly over Bengaluru skies.

India has signed an agreement to procure 36 Rafale—to form two squadrons—to reinforce the Indian Air Force (IAF) struggling with depleting fighter plane squadrons.

While the government has claimed that the first aircraft, with all the India-specific upgrades, will reach India by September this year, the opposition has been questioning the whole deal, claiming that there has been corruption.
