Congress: Last 5 years a ‘dark chapter in our democracy’ | India News

As curtains drew on the 16th Lok Sabha, Congress said the five years were a “dark chapter in our democracy” which would be “remembered for five infamous reasons”.

Senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel said during last five years, parliament sessions were convened to accommodate the poll campaign schedule of PM Narendra Modi – in what was a reference to delay in calling winter sessions during Gujarat polls in December 2017 and during polls in MP, Chhattigarh and Rajasthan in December 2018. Patel said while work of parliamentary committees was “diluted”, ordinary bills were presented as “money bills” to avoid scrutiny in Rajya Sabha. He said the Modi regime also saw unprecedented parliamentary disruptions by the ruling camp because the government mostly had scant legislative agenda.
