Denise Richards‘ life may be in the public eye, but that doesn’t mean she’ll allow her children to watch everything from her past.
The actress, 48, recently opened up to Yahoo Lifestyle Australia about her racy role in the 1998 erotic thriller Wild Things and revealed that her three daughters were prohibited from watching her famous love scene with co-star Neve Campbell.
“I definitely did not give them a copy,” she told the outlet. “I told them, ‘I don’t want you guys watching this,’ because one of my daughters brought it up to me and I was shocked.”
As her daughters begin to get older, Richards said their friends are coming across risque footage of her — particularly the one from the 1998 film which featured Richards making out with Campbell in the pool as they undress each other.
“A couple of friends had told her about it and I just said to her, ‘I would appreciate if you didn’t watch it,’” Richards recalled. “It’s not age-appropriate.”
Just because the Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills star did not want her daughters to watch the footage, that didn’t mean she told them she had any regrets about it.
“It was a movie I did, it was a script I loved, it’s me being creative,” she recalled of her conversation with Eloise and Lola. “I worked with amazing actors and one day if you do see it, you may not agree with my decision but that’s what mum decided to do.’”
Still, Richards sympathized with her young girls in having to watch their mother take on risque roles and even said she wouldn’t want to be in their shoes.
“It’s weird for them, to see their mum in something that’s sexy or different,” she told the outlet. “I think it would be very rude for me if it were my parents.”
This isn’t the first time that Richards has opened up about her strict parenting rules.
On a recent episode of RHOBH, Richards and her husband Aaron Phypers revealed they had security cameras installed outside their homes, in order to prevent Sami from going out to meet boys without her permission.
“Sami’s getting into high school and new school, new boys,” Richards explained to audiences. “That’s when kids usually start sneaking out. I started sneaking out when I was 15 years old, so I know my kid’s going to sneak out. So I’m putting cameras up so I can catch her. … We’ll be able to see people sneak out or sneak in.”
In a previous episode, Richards also told Sami that she “can’t date until you’re 16 years old” — which did not sit well with the teen.
She then called Sheen for his advice, who told his daughter, “I’ll trust your judgment if you think he’s the right person to go with.”

Richards and Sheen, 53, have been doing their best to mend their once volatile relationship. Richards even got his blessing before signing on to RHOBH.
“I did talk to him about it, because as an actor in this business I respect his opinion,” Richards told Palm Restaurant owner Bruce Bozzi on his SiriusXM Radio Andy show, Lunch with Bruce, last month. “I said, ‘What do you think?’ and he was like, ‘I think it could be really cool.’ “
“Even if he said, ‘I think this is the dumbest thing you ever did,’ I still would have done the show, but it was interesting to get his side of it,” she added. “I have a lot of respect for him as the father and also being in this business for as many years as he has.”
But Sheen wasn’t the only person who Richards consulted on the reality show. Speaking to Yahoo Lifestyle Australia, the actress revealed she also gave her daughters the option of being on the series with her.
“At the time , I said to them, ‘No pressure,’” Richards recalled to the outlet. “If they want to be part of it, they can. If they don’t, they don’t have to. I would never want them to do anything they don’t want to do.”
