In a remake of the cult film Road House, Jake Gyllenhaal will play the lead role.

The movie, according to CNN, will be "a revamped take" on the 1989 blockbuster with Patrick Swayze.

Doug Liman, who directed The Bourne Identity, will direct the endeavour.

Gyllenhaal plays a former UFC fighter in the new movie, which tells the story of how he "takes a job as a bouncer at a rough-and-tumble roadhouse in the

Florida Keys, but soon realises that not everything is what it seems in this tropical paradise."

Amazon Prime will release the project.

Amazon Studios CEO Jennifer Salke said, "We hit a home run with Road House.

Apart from being a tribute to the original fans, it is also a big, entertaining film with a wide audience."

Salke continued, “We are delighted to be working with this wonderful cast led by Joel (Silver), Doug and Jake Gyllenhaal.

As they join together to remake the classic MGM film, an action-packed adventure for our worldwide audience.

The project also includes Lukas Gage, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Billy Magnussen, and Daniela Melchior.

Later this month, the filming of the film will begin in the Dominican Republic. Joel Silver is directing through his business Silver Pictures.

Aaron Auch, Alison Winter and JJ Hooks will serve as executive producers.
